The Rays are going to make some moves this off season and a name that is becoming a hot topic is short stop Jason Bartlett. The veteran fielder is being mentioned by many teams, but three teams stand out, Orioles, Giants, and the Nationals.
Bartlett has an expiring contract and the Rays are ready to move onto Reid Brignac at short stop so chances are beyond high Bartlett will be dealt before the start of Spring, but what is the asking price? Rays are rumored to be interested in David Hernandez of Baltimore. He is a hard throwing bullpen pitcher that could give the Rays help and depth, but shouldn’t the Rays get more for Bartlett? Maybe another prospect would help sweeten the deal, but the O’s have stated they aren’t too thrilled out giving up Hernandez.
The Nationals might be willing to give up Sean Burnett, a hard throwing left hander from their bullpen, but will the Rays try to get a prospect from their farm system? Do the Rays actually want a National League pitcher trying to face the Yankees and the rest of the AL each night? Tough to judge here. The Giant are quiet on the names they are mentioning, but they are a team to watch into December as well.
Chances are high Bartlett is gone before the Rays report to Charlotte, stay tuned to find out.
