What’s Important Now: Ramos, Gomes Struggle in Loss

Spring Game 18: Yankees 5, Rays 2

The Rays got some early offense off the bat of Matt Joyce, but the Yankees were still able to power back. Joyce hit a two run homer off of Yankees starter Phil Hughes to open up the scoring in this one. Jeff Keppinger was the only Ray with two hits, going 2 for 3 as he continues his hot spring. Carlos Pena appears to be getting into shape, as he picked up another hit and a walk in this one. Jose Molina and Elliot Johnson each had doubles as their only hits.

The bullpen got all of the work in this one, with Jeff Niemann pitching in a minor league game to avoid showing him to the Yankees. Kyle Farnsworth got the start, going 1.1 innings and allowing only one hit. JP Howell picked it up from there, going 1.2 perfect innings. Cesar Ramos struggled, allowing two earned on three hits and two walks. Brandon Gomes allowed the other three runs, allowing three hits, a walk, and a home run.
