Rays Notes: "Nerd Trip" Successful, Gaub Claimed

Traveling to Boston, the Rays decided to carry out a “Ken Rosenthal/nerd-themed” road trip with everyone wearing bowties to benefit various charities. Marc Topkin has the group pictures, the individual pictures, and the information here. Definitely worth your time to check that out.

In other news, the Rangers claimed lefty reliever John Gaub from the Rays. Gaub was designated for assignment following the Drew Sutton acquisition. Gaub is lefty with nasty stuff and no control and that was no exception this season at Triple-A Durham, where he struck out 11.3 batters per 9 innings in 16 relief appearances, but walked 6.5. Here is what I wrote about him when the Rays acquired him on a waiver claim from the Cubs back in early April. Gaub made four major league appearances with the Cubs in 2011, his only big league experience.
