The Undercards: Tim Beckham Slams 4 Hits, 4 RBI in Phoenix's 15-1 Thrashing

When everyone in your lineup has a hit and an RBI, you’re doing pretty well. But some players do better than others and at the end of the day it’s all about seizing the opportunity of getting a struggling pitcher on the mound and having a big game. Tim Beckham did exactly that on Thursday.

Arizona Fall League: Phoenix Desert Dogs 15, Surprise Saguaros 1

The Desert Dogs scored 3 in the top of the 1st and this game was never really close. Tim Beckham was a big part of that, going 4 for 5 with a triple, a double, two singles, a walk, a game-high 4 RBI, and 2 runs scored as he completely went off, coming up a homer short of the cycle. The Rays has to hope Beckham can have some game like this. Beckham has a 5-game hitting streak and is now 7 for his last 13. The other Rays in the game didn’t have their best showings. Hak-Ju Lee went 1 for 5 with 2 RBI and a run scored, while Richie Shaffer went 1 for 5 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored, also striking out 3 times. Hopefully those two can follow Beckham’s lead and get themselves going as well.

Dominican Winter League

In the Este-Cibaenas game, Omar Luna joined ex-Ray Tim Corcoran on Cibaenas, who won the game 4-3, and while Corcoran pitched well as the starter, going 5 innings allowing just 2 runs, 1 earned, on 4 hits, striking out 2 while walking 1, Luna went just 0 for 4 with a run scored including a popped up bunt in the 9th inning that failed to move the runners over and could have cost Cibaenas the game. Nice to see Corcoran doing well, but Luna had a tough day- but is still hitting .318 on the DWL season.

Mexican Pacific League

In the Navojoa-Mazatian game, ex-Ray Wes Bankston had another great game, going 3 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. I keep reminding everyone that he’s only 28, and although it’s unlikely to happen, the Rays have to consider re-signing him for at least a good split-second.

Venezuelan Winter League

In the Zulia-Lara game, Ryan Reid nailed down his third save for Zulia, working around a single and a walk with a pair of groundballs. Reid’s groundout to airout ratio in 5.2 VWL innings is an unbelievable 13.00. And in the Margarita-Caracas game, Henry Wrigley went 0 for 4 with a strikeout as Caracas’ DH, although ex-Ray Sean Burroughs did go 1 for 4 with a walk and a run scored for Margarita.
