The Undercards: Leslie Anderson’s Slump Continues

You see a player playing great in Winter Ball and you hope he is really taking a step forward. Then slowly but surely it all falls apart.

Venezuelan Winter League: Navegantes de Magallanes 2, Cardelanes de Lara 1

This game was a pitching duel the whole was through, with the Navegantes not getting any help from the two current and former Rays in their lineup. Carlos Zambrano started for Magallanes and delivered 5 innings allowing just an unearned run, but he did it in Victor Zambrano fashion more than anything else as he managed just a 4-3 strikeout to walk ratio but an 8-2 groundout to flyout ratio. Juan Rivera and Carlos Maldonado had the Navegantes’ RBI. In terms of the Rays, Leslie Anderson went 0 for 4 with a strikeout while Chris Nowak, went 0 for 3 with a K. Anderson and Nowak were batting 6th and 9th one day after batting 4th and 3rd. Anderson is now 4 for his last 24 (.167) with all his hits being singles and not one walk against 3 strikeouts. He’s hitting .289 in the VWL but his OBP ist just .337 and his slugging percentage is only .316 as he’s shown solid pure hitting ability as always but no patience or power, two things that have cost him dearly as he hopes for a big league opportunity that has yet to come.
