It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Per the Durham Bulls Twitter account, Rays top outfield prospect Wil Myers has been removed from the Triple-A Durham game for a pinch-runner in the 7th inning. Such an early exit has to mean something, right? Are the Rays calling up Myers to the major leagues for tonight’s game? The flight from Raleigh, North Carolina (half an hour from Durham) to Baltimore is just a little over an hour. He can make it! He’s coming up! Who cares about the Super Two deadline, anyway? But alas, no. Buster Olney sent out this disappointing tweet.
To clarify: Wil Myers not on his way to the big leagues now…

So why was he removed from the game? He fouled a ball off his foot and has a contusion on his right foot. A contusion? Oh no! Wait a second, a contusion is a bruise. Myers might miss a day or so, but he’ll be fine.
What’s going on here? Basically nothing. Every Rays fan just got their hopes up, but Myers is not arriving in the major leagues right now and might not for a couple of months. The good news: the excitement we all felt for a second when we heard that Myers was removed from the game will only amplify the feeling when Myers is really called up.
