Game 69: Wade Davis Stifles Offense, Roberto Hernandez Comes Apart as Rays Drop Series to Royals

Rays fans can remember a time when the offense would score a couple of runs and the Rays were almost automatically going to win. But blown leads have been the story of the Rays’ season thus far and Sunday was just the latest chapter. A Luke Scott RBI double and a Desmond Jennings RBI single off of Wade Davis in the 1st inning gave the Rays a 2-1 lead. But Jeff Francoeur tied the game with a homer off of Roberto Hernandez in the 5th and RBI singles by Alcides Escobar and Alex Gordon in the 6th made it 4-2. Hernandez went 5.2 innings allowing 4 runs on 9 hits, striking out 2 while walking 1. With the Rays trailing 5-2 in the 9th, Jose Lobaton did manage a solo home run, but that was all as the Rays lost 5-3, losing their series to the Royals 3 games to 1. But before you get downtrodden, there is breaking news: Wil Myers is coming up.
