Breaking News: Rays’ Wil Myers Lines Single for First MLB Hit

After losing 5-1 in the first game of their doubleheader against the Red Sox, the Rays hope for better results in the second game. That has already been the case, though, for Wil Myers.

In the day game, Myers was certainly feeling the pressure and may have been trying too hard. He went 0 for 4 with 3 relatively weak flyouts and a strikeout, trying to hard to elevate the ball and hit it out of the park when he should have just stayed calm and gone to all fields knowing that the home runs will come. In his first at-bat of the second game, he did exactly that. Felix Doubront gave Myers and changeup that stayed up and Myers stuck the bat head out and lined a single to left field for his first MLB hit. Myers is now just 1 for 5 for his career–the Rays are expecting a whole lot more than that. But for Myers, it was a good place to start and certainly a confidence builder. It was his first MLB hit and may it be the first of many.
