Wil Myers has been a force of nature for the Rays, hitting home runs while providing another threatening presence in the lineup. In the meantime, despite having been called up in the middle of June, Myers has inserted himself as the probable favorite for the American League Rookie of the Year award.
Yet, Myers had not truly arrived until now. Teammate Evan Longoria had several ‘Team Wil’ t-shirts made up, and distributed them among members of the Rays during their present road trip. Longoria explained that hte shirts were created since Myers never wears any Rays gear, aside from the uniform.
“The reason was because he never has any Rays stuff on, so I figured if I got him a shirt with Rays on the front and his name on the back, then maybe he’d be more inclined to wear it,” Longoria said.
If you are thinking about getting a shirt, they may be hard to come by, as Longoria only had approximately twenty shirts made. However, much like Andre the Giant in the late 1980’s Wil Myers now has a posse.
On the minor league side, congratulations are in order for the Durham Bulls, who swept the Indianapolis Indians as they wrapped up a trip to the Governor’s Cup Finals. They await the winner of the Pawtucket Red Sox – Rochester Red Wings series, which the Red Sox lead two games to one.
