Two Loves Renewed: Valentine's Day and Pitchers and Catchers Report

Today is Friday, February 14th. For many people, though, today has another meaning as well: Valentine’s Day. Love or hate the chocolates and the rituals and all the other hoopla, it is always nice to have an excuse to tell someone you love them one more time. But not everyone is in a relationship right now, and some of the people in that group are adventurous enough to use Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to ask someone out. It is a rush putting yourself out there and seeing what could happen. You know you are taking a risk, but if you have come this far, you have decided that it is worth it no matter what transpires. The funny thing about the preceding two sentences: they are equally apt for describing being a baseball fan. Every fan invests something in their team, and when things get bad, we ask ourselves whether it is worth it. But somehow after every crushing loss, we come back the next season dreaming of a different result and just maybe a championship. Today, Tampa Bay Rays pitchers and catchers report, and a love of a different kind is rekindled again. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone, and happy Pitchers and Catchers Reporting Day as well.
