]]> The Rule 5 Draft begins now and a Rays prospect is a good candidate for the first few picks of the draft. Lefty Braulio Lara struggled mightily in 2012, going just 6-10 with a 4.71 ERA and an 82-58 strikeout to walk ratio in 112 innings at High-A Charlotte, but he also touched 98 MPH with his fastball (even reportedly touching 100 MPH in the Dominican Winter League), and also throws a changeup and curveball. Lara seems far from big league ready, but his upside is high and he looks to be selected.

On the Rays side, there are plenty of players they could potentially target with the 21st overall pick including first baseman Jesus Aguilar (Indians) and Chris McGuiness (Rangers), who both show solid power and plate discipline, catcher Jason Hagerty (Padres) who hits pretty well for a catcher and has decent defense, and bullpen arms Juan Sosa (Phillies) and Tim Crabbe (Reds), both of whom have electric stuff but plenty of work to do on command. it will be interesting to see what happens in the Rule 5 Draft and the Rays could end up with a contributor to their big league team for next season.
