More Rays storylines lie with the defeated University of South Carolina squad. The Gamecocks’ left fielder was Tanner English, the Rays’ 13th round pick in 2011 who did not sign. English is a lightning-fast outfielder with ridiculous speed and bunting ability whose offensive game continues to progress. He hit a line drive to second base for the second out of the bottom of the 9th inning for South Carolina with the bases loaded.
