31 Games Remaining…Goodbye

Last nights’ loss to the Red Sox might have possibly been the final dagger in the Rays season. We are now 6 games back behind the Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card Standings with only 31 games remaining.
I’m a little surprised that the Rays trotted out Andy Sonnanstine in such a crucial game, but the trade of Scott Kazmir this weekend neccesitated that move. It just hurts that it was in such a crucial game vs the team that we are chasing, a game that could make up 1 full game per victory or lose 1 full game per loss. Sonnanstine looked no different than before he got sent down, pitching 4.0 innings, giving up 8 hits, 5 runs, 3 earned, walking 4 guys and striking out two. Coulpe that with the fact that the best pitcher since the first month of the season Jon Lester pitched another gem, and you end up with a 8 to 4 loss.
We tried to mount a comeback off Hideki Okajima in the 8th, but it wasn’t enough, too little too late. Kind of like our season after we win tonight, too little too late.
