Winter meetings in action

The Winter meetings are in full action today. The Rays are rumored with several deals already, but so far nothing has happened. The name that keeps getting thrown around is Jason Bartlett.

The San Diego Padres have taken a deal off the tables that would have included a Heath Bell for Bartlett trade, but the Padres don’t want to give up their closer. They have other middle relievers that the Rays are looking at. Don’t count out the Cardinals, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh as well, all of these teams could make an offer.

Carlos Pena is rumored to the Nationals right now. Super jerk agent Scott Boras is talking to them to get them to open up their pocket books even more for the veteran slugger.

Dan Wheeler could be another name headed somewhere else. The Red Sox are talking with him, along with the Yankees.

So only day 1 and the rumors are flying. Expect more action to happen later this week for the Rays. They will get some sort of trade or signing done to help the bullpen or may add a veteran bat to the mix as well. Stay tuned!
