Latest on Jason Bartlett

There are some conflicting reports from last night and today about the status of Jason Bartlett to the San Diego Padres.

According to Marc Topkin last night, the deal is in place, but anything announced was premature as of now. This is odd due to the fact that Bartlett was tweeting that the deal was over and replacement Reid Brignac tweeted “good luck and looking forward to the opportunity to start.”

Chances are high the deal is done, but it won’t be “official” until sometime today.

The Rays are getting two relief pitchers out of the deal. Cesar Ramos and Adam Russell are the two relief pitchers mentioned in the deal. Russell, age 27, had a 4.02 ERA in 12 outings last season, he was one of the 4 pitchers from the Jake Peavy deal. Ramos, 26, was the Padres 35th overall pick in 2005. He is 0-1 with an ERA of 11.88, but only in 14 relief appearances, he is regarded as a starting pitcher though.

The deal will probably get done sometime today, so everyone stay tuned for the latest.
