Rays Get New AstroTurf – Free

As you’ll see I am a huge Stu Sternberg fan. It’s hard not to be after suffering through the Naimoli years. For some reason we Tampa sports fans are forced to suffer through really bad owners in our franchises, but it does give us an appreciation when we get someone who wants to put a winner on the field.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers had Hugh Culverhouse, but when the Glazers came on board they won games and a Super Bowl.
Rays – Naimoli. “nuff said right?
Lightning – can anyone doubt how much has changed since the idiots were ran out of town? By idiots I mean Oren Koules and Len Barrie. These two made a shambles of a once proud organization. Thank you Jeff Vinik. Hiring Steve Yzerman, then following up with Guy Boucher, turned a moribund franchise around quickly.
Ok, I know, I am digressing here. My point is that the Rays are getting 1.1 million square feet of brand spanking new AstroTurf and it won’t cost them a dime. Not even a penny. According to an article on TampaBay.com ” The Rays got the 1.1 million square feet of turf at no cost as part of AstroTurf’s sponsorship arrangement with Major League Baseball, with installation to be completed by mid February.”
That’s classic Stu. While it may be a difficult task defending our AL East crown, Sternberg and company certainly aren’t shying away from anything that will improve the team. Even at the field level.
