W: David Price (1-2) 3.92 ERA

L: Jon Lester (0-1) 3.72 ERA

Summary: The Rays leveraged a three-run fifth
inning to take the first series against Boston at Fenway Park and dump the Red
Sox into sole possession of fifth place in the AL East. In a battle of team aces
David Price out-dueled Jon Lester for his first win of the season. Lester
pitched seven innings, striking out eight Rays, but it wasn’t enough. A two run
single by former Sox team mate Johnny Damon was the turning point but the Rays
also took advantage of BoSox catcher Jason Varitek, swiping three bases. Carl
Crawford was picked off in his lone attempt by Price.

Kyle Farnsworth recorded his second save of the season, striking out Jacoby Ellsbury and J.D. Drew in the ninth and then surviving a well hit ball by David Ortiz that hit Ben Zobrist in the glove.

Sam Fuld, batting lead off, continues to add to his sudden fame, going one for four while stealing his team-leading sixth base in only 32 at bats. Fuld has become an instant Twitter star, with numerous Chuck Norris-style tweets recounting his early rise to prominence after toiling in the Chicago Cubs farm system for six years.

From LegendofSamFuld
“Sam Fuld can make it rain in the Trop”
“If Sam Fuld were closing, he’d get three outs with one pitch”
“Sam Fuld used his laser eyes to shatter that bat”
“Jesus could walk on water, sam fuld can swim on land”
“It won’t rain in Boston until Sam Fuld says so”
“When Freddy Kruger goes to bed, he has nightmares of Sam Fuld.”

Tampa will look for a sweep when they finish the series tonight in Boston, a 7:10 pm start, before flying out for an eight game home stand against the AL Central. After a four game series versus the Minnesota Twins they’ll get a chance to record some payback with another four game series versus the Chicago White Sox.
