James Shields Wins Player of the Week

Well, actually, James Shields won co-player of the week–the second time he’s won the honor this year. What’s a guy gotta do to get the whole award to himself? All he did was win two complete games and allow just an unearned run. He had to share the honor with the Tigers’ Justin Verlander who also threw two complete games and just gave up one earned run. Come on! Shields was better.

Verlander has to wonder what he has to do to win the award outright himself. Last time he won it because he threw a no-hitter. Francisco Liriano also threw a no-no that week and so they were co-winners even though Verlander was more dominant in his gem.
