Rays Send Three to the All-Star Game…and Hopefully Two More

The All-Star Game rosters were just unveiled and three Rays were selected. James Shields, David Price and Matthew Joyce were chosen.
When I unveiled by All-Star Game picks, I took five Rays: Joyce, Shields, Ben Zobrist, Jeremy Hellickson and Kyle Farnsworth. Hellickson had an awful June which put him out of the running. Farnsworth is the selection I just don’t understand. He is certainly deserving a spot. Only Mariano Rivera has a lower ERA among AL relievers with fifteen or more saves. No one has has a lower WHIP than Farnsworth and he’s only blown two saves, while converting 16.
Zobrist is also very deserving and still has a shot as he is among the five that will be voted upon for the final roster spot. Vote early, vote often for Zobrist.
As I noted earlier in the week, James Shields will not pitch, so hopefully that will open a spot for Farnsworth. Marc Topkin @SPTimesRays notes that Joyce would be willing to compete in the Home Run Derby, which would be a lot of fun to see.
