With the offseason in full swing, it is time to get caught up on some of the more recent Rays story. Almost everyone in the Rays Republic knows David Price(@DAVIDprice14) is a prolific Twitterer. With 71,000 followers and over 4,000 tweets, Price is one of the best in baseball. While he may not have the same amount of followers, at 4,276, Desmond Jennings(@d_jennings8) is certainly becoming a great Twitterer in his own right. Today, he solidified his awesomeness.
"I’m about to drop off some signed baseballs and a couple bats on random doorsteps in St Pete lolI need some addresses though"
These two tweets resulted in 13 replies and a lot of respect gained from fans everywhere. Jennings made three stops this afternoon across St. Petersburg dropping off bats and baseballs to fans lucky enough to see these tweets.
Offseason News and Notes
- John Tomase of the Boston Herald writes that a Rays trade with the Angels for Mark Trumbo or Kendrys Morales would make sense for both teams. I talked about this earlier this offseason, and I think a deal for either would be great for the Rays. I did lose a little respect for Tomase in this article, however, as he took a cheap shot at the Rays “pathetic” attendance. We know it’s bad. You don’t need to point it out.
- In another good Rays piece, MLB Trade Rumors makes a case for the Rays to sign Matt Joyce to an extension. Joyce has the potential to be a great hitter and he is still young, so I think this would make sense for the Rays to sign him long-term so they don’t lose him on the open market.
- In former Rays news, the Cubs are shopping Matt Garza, and are reportedly asking for a hefty return. If the Cubs do manage to deal Garza, it would be the second straight offseason where Garza would be dealt, after the Rays got a huge haul for him last year.
