Rays Notes: Joyce Hurt, “Glovegate”, Draft Signings

Tuesday night’s game, a 5-4 Rays win, was an insane game and one that we’ll remember. Unfortunately in the 4th inning, Matt Joyce left the game with “back tightness” and we’ll have to see how long he’ll be out. The Rays have plenty of injuries and losing Joyce would be another big blow. But what made the game stand out was Joel Peralta’s ejection from the game for having pine tar in his glove. More on that and my take on it as part of last night’s game recap.
In other news, the Rays have signed two more of their 2012 draft picks to give them 31 of their 40 picks signed. The two are their 27th round selection, right-hander Alex Keudell out of the University of Oregon, and 38th rounder, catcher Chad Nacapoy out of Cal State Los Angeles. Keudell’s fastball reaches just the high-80’s but he has a deceptive delivery with a great curveball and solid changeup, while Nacapoy showed some nice defensive ability as a collegiate athlete. For more on Keudell, Nacapoy, and the rest of the Rays’ 2012 draft picks, please check out our Rays 2012 Draft Profiles page here at RCG.
