Rays Notes: Hideki Matsui Released

Hideki Matsui asked for, and was given his walking papers yesterday, as the Rays released the 38 year old outfielder. Matsui, who hit .147 in 95 at bats this season, was designated for assignment last week.
The Rays were greeted by a contingent of fans upon arriving back in Tampa at approximately 1:00am this morning.
