Rays Winter Ball Recap: Abreu Leads The Way For Caracas

In the playoffs, anyone can be a hero. But sometimes the players who got their team there by having a strong season show up again in the playoffs. Bobby Abreu has had an impressive season this winter and has continued that with his strong play so far in the post season.
Dominican Winter League Playoffs: Gigantes del Cibao 6, Aguilas Cibaenas 5
Cibao had a very balanced offensive attack to defeat Cibaenas. 8 different hitters hit safely in the game including Mayo Acosta who went 2 for 4 with a solo home run. Leury Garcia went 3 for 5 with a double and a stolen base in the game for Cibao. Zoilo Almonte and Ricardo Nanita both hit home runs in the game for Cibaenas but it was not enough. Cibaenas committed 4 errors in the game, which proved costly in the close game.
Venezuelan Winter League Playoffs: Leones del Caracas 14, Caribes de Anzoategui 13
A 5 run 9th inning gave Caracas the win in the high scoring affair. Bobby Abreu continued to stay hot by going 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs in the winning effort. He raised his postseason average now stands at a very impressive .460. Alex Gonzalez and Jesus Aguilar finished 3 for 5 with a home run and RBIs to help out the cause for Caracas. Gorkys Hernandez went 3 for 5 with 4 runs scored for Anzoategui in the losing effort.

La Guaira routed Magallanes with 18 hits. 5 hitters had multi hits games. Joe Thurston went 4 for 6 with a pair of doubles and a pair of RBIs for La Guaira. Robinson Chirinos went 1 for 3 with a 2 run home run in the loss for Magallanes. Bruedlin Suero picked up the win for La Guaira by retiring the 2 hitters he faced in the game.
