Game 42: Grant Balfour Blows It As Rays Lose 6-5

Does this game need a recap, really? Everyone will have went to bed thinking this win was safe, no way the Rays could have blown this one. Well, they did. In walk-off fashion and, in the process, squandering yet another decent Erik Bedard pitching performance.

Leading 5-2 going into the bottom of the ninth, it was time for Grant Balfour to shut the lights out and we could all go home. But it was not to be. He didn’t record an out. Brad Boxberger came in to try to salvage a win and that worked about as well as the internet at my home was working tonight. All I will say is Mike Trout hit a three run home run. If there are Mike Trout fans among the Rays supporters, you are no doubt happy.

This game started off so well. The Rays built a 5-0 lead. Brandon Guyer hit his first home run of the season and collected two RBIs, as did James Loney. Erik Bedard went 5.2 giving up 4 hits and 2 unearned runs. All in all the Rays have to be encouraged by his progression.

Time to forget this. Read the wonderful articles Rays Colored Glasses has to offer. Ignore this recap. Check back Friday and hopefully we can talk about a win.
