With the Tampa Bay Rays out of contention, we are going to see several players get the opportunity to prove themselves at the big league level before the year is through. Alex Colome is making a strong case to be one of those players.

Triple-A International League: Durham Bulls 4, Norfolk Tides (BAL) 1

Alex Colome has a 0.44 ERA in three starts with the Bulls. It does not get much better than that. In this game, Colome went 7 innings allowing just 1 run on 6 hits, striking out 5 while walking none. He was even efficient in doing so, using just 89 pitches. Colome has returned from his suspension with something to prove and has firmly established that his potential remains high. The Durham offense supported Colome with a 3 for 4 night from Cole Figueroa and Mikie Mahtook‘s third homer of the year.

High-A Florida State League: Fort Myers Miracle (MIN) 10, Charlotte Stone Crabs 0

This was a rough game as the Stone Crabs got four-hit. Tyler Goeddel did have one of those hits, a double. On the pitching side, Luis Cabrera got destroyed, allowing 6 runs, 4 earned, in just a third of an inning. But the starter Blake Snell wasn’t all that bad, allowing 4 runs, 3 earned, on 2 hits in 4 innings, and Jose Molina was actually awesome, tossing 3.2 no-hit innings allowing just a walk while striking out 4. As far as 10-0 losses go, this one wasn’t that bad.
