1B – Jake Bauers – 20 years old – AA
1B – Patrick Leonard – 23 years old – AA
Bauers and Leonard may not be ready for the call ups right off-the-bat, but if Bauer’s performance in 2016 is anywhere near what expectations have for him, he could be a difference maker in 2016 if needed in the second half.
Both of these players managed close to one extra base hit for every 10 AB (45 each). What makes Bauer’s season so much more interesting is that he managed this at only 20 years old and walked 50 times while only striking out 74 times. In comparison, Leonard walked 54 times but struck out 129 times.
The fact that Bauer’s stats have been rock steady throughout his promotions is also intriguing and the fact that he does well against both LHP and RHP helps enhance his chances for a call up.
Interestingly, however, Bauers played LF in the AFL and did fairly well. Increasing his versatility can’t hurt his chances of making it to The Show.
Other: Although it isn’t their primary positions, both Richie Shaffer and Taylor Motter can handle 1B very well and have more MLB ready bats.
Next: At 2B is a prospect many have forgotten about
