SS – Daniel Robertson – 21 years old – AA
Many will say Robertson needs more time in the minors, but others will argue he’s ready to enter MLB now. He is the toughest out on this list and could make the biggest impact of all in 2016 if and when called upon.
Brad Miller may proved to be strong enough at SS to mitigate the call up of Robertson until rosters expand, but you can’t discount the fact that if he struggles, the Rays have a limited ability to go out and trade for another SS. This makes it likely that we’d see Robertson get a shot instead, and the decision to chase another SS put off until the Rays see what he can do.
Other: As with 2B, Hager could have an impact at SS. Also, with a great first half in AA, it’s possible that Willy Adames puts himself into the conversation, although he seems a better option for 2017.
Next: At 3B is Shaffer, who should start on the roster
