As is the usual on Sunday, here is your recap of some of the best stories about the Tampa Bay Rays to come from Rays Colored Glasses this past week.
Rylan an I got our feet wet with our first game recaps of the season as we covered some of the Tampa Bay Rays first games of the spring season.
Game 1: Lost 3-2 to Twins
"The Tampa Bay Rays got off to a wacky start in the first inning of Spring ball. Gold Glove, rather Platinum glove, center fielder Kevin Kiermaier misplayed a ball in center that rolled past him, followed by a horrific relay throw that allowed Scott Kingery to score on an inside the park home run (though the official scorer called it a triple with an advancement on a throw)."
Game 2: Lost 10-5 to Twins
"Ryan Yarbrough, the hotshot young gun that burst onto the scene in 2019, got the start for the Spring Rays. The 27-year-old struggled to say the least as he was unable to get out of the first inning, only recording one out in the frame. He was charged with two earned runs, while four came around to score as he allowed three hits."
Game 3: Lost 8-5 to Yankees
"Glasnow debuted the new pause in his delivery as he focuses on becoming more consistent towards the plate. He would throw 1.2 innings prior to giving way to Yonny Chirinos who struggled mightily."
Game 4: Lost 5-2 to the Marlins
"The Rays would eventually go down 5-0 and were on the verge of getting shut out before Nathan Lukes grounded out to plate Michael Brosseau. In the 9th inning, the Rays second and only other run came across when Jake Smolinski hit a line drive to left field that scored Thomas Milone."
Game 5: Won 11-5 vs the Twins
"The bats finally broke through in a big way yesterday led by prospects Jesus Sanchez and Nate Lowe. The Tampa Bay Rays used a 10 run 8th inning to move to 1-4 in exhibition play."
The Rays would finish the week by rattling off 5 straight wins prior to which improved their record to 5-5.
