A lot, if not all Tampa Bay Rays fans are excited about Yandy Diaz. Should they be?
This offseason, the Tampa Bay Rays were involved in a three-team trade that saw Jake Bauers get shipped off for Yandy Diaz.
This is a 2-in-1 for predictions.
The first: Yandy Diaz will not figure out his power outage.
Yandy Diaz is absolutely jacked. He has muscles for days and looks like he should be able to club a ball 500 feet with ease.
I mean, just check out this photo and article from last year.
In his 88 game Major League Baseball career, the super jacked corner infielder has one home run…that is it. Just one home run.
His slugging percentage averages out for his career to a .366 average. His On base percentage for his career is .361 and he hits for an average of .283.
Baseball-Reference projects Diaz to hit five homers and carry a slash line of .267/.343/.393.
Already this spring, Diaz has two home runs on his resume.
I find it hard to believe, even with playing in hitter friendly parks nightly within the division, that Diaz will suddenly become a power hitter at age 27.
Confidence level: 8/10. The ballpark factor is the only thing keeping me from making this level higher.
The second cold predictions: The Tampa Bay Rays will long for Jake Bauers when it is all said and done.
Jake Bauers is only 23 years old and hit 11 home runs last season while taking home a slash line of .201/.316/.384 and 48 RBI’s.
Again, at age 22 he produced that at the big league level.
Bauers is projected by baseball-reference to slash for a line of .223/.322/.404 with 12 homers and 48 RBI’s.
And this prediction is not just this year. While I think Bauers will have the better season, I also think he will have a better career.
Confidence level: 9.5/10
