There are some intriguing names on the non-roster invite list for the Rays this spring training. Top prospect Carson Williams has been included in a multitude of conversations this offseason regarding his big league potential, especially after his success in the Premier12 tournament. Xavier Isaac is another very exciting prospect with light-tower power. Former MLB comparisons to this slugger could be All-Stars Prince Fielder and Ryan Howard. Although he likely won't live up to those incredible players, it's always fun to dream up the possible scenarios.
However, neither of those prospects are the one we'll be highlighting in this article. The player we're focusing on has a unique skill set that few athletes can emulate. His comparisons regarding his bat could be prestigious batting champion Luis Arraez, while the best comp for his baserunning would be someone like speedster Billy Hamilton. He was the No. 4 prospect in the Tampa Bay farm system last year and his name is Chandler Simpson.
Oh my sweet baby jesus..

This is Chandler Simpson of the Rays, who is batting .339 in AA with 36-SB and a 6.2-SO% !!!! 😳
Just completely does not care about HRs, and is an absolute blur on the bases https://t.co/15bEb0WiTn pic.twitter.com/t8IDqX1C84
His combination of elite speed and contact ability are unrivaled in the prospect ranks. In 2024, Simpson slashed .355/.410/.397 with 104 stolen bases for Single-A Bowling Green and Double-A Montgomery. 2023 wasn't much different as the 24-year old outfielder hit .294 with 94 stolen bases. Simpson appears to be advancing in his game as he gets promoted through the Rays system, so an MLB debut in the next few seasons would not be outrageous.
Also, the Tampa Bay outfield is not super crowded at the moment with the losses of Jose Siri and Dylan Carlson this offseason. Therefore, a late season call-up could allow him to ease into the big leagues if he's ready.
Simpson is obviously not the only prospect knocking on the door of the Rays big league roster. Carson Williams could still receive a late call-up to play under a talented professional in Ha-Seong Kim. The 21-year old's game matches up well with Kim's style, as they both heavily value defense without disregarding their offensive potential.
Dominic Keegan is another interesting name to keep on your radar over the next few seasons. Despite the signing of veteran catcher Danny Jansen, the Rays No. 13 prospect will hopefully be the future for the Rays behind the plate. There is a ton to look forward to if you're a Rays fan and the excitement will start against the Yankees on February 21st.
