Encouraging news for the Tampa Bay Rays as Luis Patino is set to make his return to the Major League club on Friday against the Orioles.

Kevin Cash confirmed Thursday that Patino will throw 1-2 innings in his return, with the hope that they can build back up as a starting option for the club.

Luis Patino has been a top prospect for Tampa Bay since acquiring him in the Blake Snell trade. For a team that has been hit hard with injuries, it is great news to have one of their young, dynamic arms returning to the club.

Patino has made five rehab starts for Tampa Bay during his recovery process, most recently throwing 78 pitches through five innings of work, striking out seven while allowing six hits, no walks, and two runs for Triple-A Durham.

The right hander would have been his debut sooner if not for a blister on his throwing hand that he has been working through. The 22 year old will be much needed, after a recent injury to Shane Baz has placed him back on the IL.

It remains to be seen if his return will be the start of better luck in health for the club as well as a rise in the standings for the team that has fought so hard to stay in contention. There is a lot of optimism that has the team gets healthier, they can go on a run.

Patino's return may help the club be even bigger buyers at the deadline, so watch for the team to make more moves to improve the club.
