Rays Prospects: 2023 MLB draftee Tre' Morgan promoted to High-A
The former LSU Tiger star and 2023 Tampa Bay Rays draft pick Tre' Morgan got promoted to High-A. Here is the story of what he is doing to make ways in the Rays' farm system.
On Monday, Tre' Morgan recieved a promotion to the High-A level in the Tampa Bay Rays organization after starting the season in the Low-A level with Tampa Bay's affiliated team, the Charleston RiverDogs.
Morgan was originally selected in third round with the 88th overall pick by the Rays back in 2023. He played at LSU and was a member of their big time 2023 National Championship squad, as he batted .300 plus during every year spent playing in Baton Rouge.
This was all before Tampa Bay took a chance on the young first baseman, and he has gone to work in his 37-game stint with the Low-A level RiverDogs. Although he has not necessarily shown a lot of power in his bat to start his minor league career, he is efficiently doing what he did in college, and kept both his 2023 and 2024 batting averages over .300.
What Rays fans can expect from Tre' Morgan after promotion
He got off to a really hot start at the plate in 2023 with Charleston. He put up a .389 average and became known for making plays once on the base paths, racking up eight walks and four stolen bases in 36 total at-bats (with also only two strikeouts over that stretch).
That offensive ability kept going in 2024, as Morgan has put up 10 walks and nine stolen bases. The batting average has been there too, sitting at .320. Morgan's OBP has been great during his minor league career as well, up well over .395.
On Wednesday, Morgan had his first game with the High-A affiliated Bowling Green Hot Rods and put up an incredible game, going 3-for-4 with two runs and twi RBI. The progress he has made in Tampa Bay's system has been nothing short of amazing, and he should continue to do that in future games at the higher levels of minor league baseball.
