Rays vs. Giants prediction and odds for Monday, Aug. 14 (Tyler Glasnow stays hot)

Tyler Glasnow has been elite over his last three starts, making him a great pitcher to back on Monday.

The Tampa Bay Rays have dealt with a ton of injuries to their pitching staff, losing Drew Rasmussen, Shane McClanahan and Jeffrey Springs to arm injuries.

However, they still have Tyler Glasnow, who began the season on the injured list, left in the rotation. Glasnow has been great in 2023, going 5-3 with a 3.15 ERA. He’s been even better since the start of July, posting a 2.11 ERA in six starts.

This is Glasnow’s first outing in August, and he takes on a San Francisco Giants team that should be in the conversation for a wild card spot in the National League down the stretch of the 2023 season.

Ryan Walker (4-1, 2.40 ERA) will get the start as an opener for the Giants. San Francisco's bullpen has been great in 2023, ranking fifth in the league in ERA at 3.61.

Who has the edge in this matchup between two playoff hopeful squads?

Let’s dive into the latest odds and my best bet for Monday’s contest:

Rays vs. Giants prediction and pick

Glasnow has been banged up as of late, getting his last start skipped, but he’s been too good for me to fade him in this spot.

Since June 25, Glasnow hasn’t allowed more than three runs in a start, and he’s pitched at least seven innings in his last three outings, posting a 1.71 ERA over that stretch.

I don’t want to take anything away from the Giants’ bullpen, because it has been terrific this season, but I think Glasnow has the advantage since San Francisco will need several pitchers to be lights out when using an opener.

It’s also important to note that the Giants’ offense has been brutal over the last 15 days, ranking 29th in the league in OPS.

Making a play on the UNDER isn’t a bad idea, but I can’t help but back the Rays with Glasnow on the mound.
