The last place New York Yankees will look to gain some ground on the Tampa Bay Rays in the wild card race on Monday night, but they may not have the pitching to do it.

New York was knocked around on Sunday Night Baseball by the Baltimore Orioles, and now it has to take on a Tampa Bay team that ranks fifth in Major League Baseball in OPS this season.

While the Rays haven’t been the same team since the start of 2023, they are still firmly in the playoffs mix in the American League, sitting just 1.5 games behind Baltimore in the division.

Tyler Glasnow (4-3, 3.36 ERA) gets the ball for Tampa in this game against Domingo German (5-7, 4.77 ERA) who has struggled since tossing a perfect game earlier this season.

Here are the odds and my best bet for this Monday night matchup:

Rays vs. Yankees prediction and pick

Since throwing a perfect game back on June 28, German has made four starts and struggled mightily.

Over that stretch, the Yankees right-hander has a 5.64 ERA, 4.40 Fielding Independent Pitching and has allowed five home runs. The Yankees are just 1-3 in those starts.

While German did put together two decent outings against the Rays earlier this season, he didn’t make it out of the sixth inning in either. That’s going to leave some pressure on the Yankees’ No. 1 bullpen to hold the Rays down.

Meanwhile, Glasnow seems to be rounding into form after missing time earlier this season due to his recovery from injury.

The Rays righty has made five starts in July, posting a 2.30 ERA, 2.45 FIP and striking out 43 batters in 31.1 innings of work.

New York’s offense – even with Aaron Judge back – is still the weaker unit in this game, so I’ll gladly back the red-hot Glasnow to lead the Rays to a win on Monday.
