After losing two out of three against the Blue Jays this past weekend, the Tampa Bay Rays can turn their focus from going 162-0 to staying atop the American League East standings. The club's next opponent is the Cincinnati Reds, who sit at 6-9 and are in last place in the NL Central.

Rays vs. Reds, probable starting pitchers, April 17

  • Left-hander Jalen Beeks will get the "start" against the Reds, functioning as an opener for the Rays. This will be the second time he's been utilized in such a role this year, and his ability to go multiple innings will be leaned on in Monday's game. 26-year-old Cooper Criswell, whose contract was just selected, will follow Beeks and be used as the bulk reliever. Criswell, a former Los Angeles Angels pitcher, had a 3.09 ERA in 11.2 innings in Triple-A this year before his promotion.
  • Opposing Beeks/Criswell on the mound will be the ace of the Reds, Hunter Greene. The 23-year-old had a solid year last year, posting a 4.44 ERA and a 102 ERA+ in 24 starts. He is a huge strikeout pitcher (11.7 SO/9 last year, 14.8 this year) and needs to get his control under - well, control - in order to take his game to the next level. He is a flamethrowing righty who will put the Rays' lineup to the test to start off the series.
