The Era of Randyland: A tribute to Randy Arozarena and his Tampa Bay stardom
Randy Arozarena is officially playing for the Seattle Mariners as he made his debut on Saturday. Here is a tribute to his time in Tampa Bay that highlights everything he did for the Tampa Bay Rays.
For Tampa Bay Rays fans everywhere, it is still strange to picture the idea of Randy Arozarena not calling Tropicana Field home. Sadly, he officially made his debut with the Seattle Mariners on Saturday, as he helped the Mariners get a 6-3 win over the Chicago White Sox. He recorded a base hit and was walked once in the game.
Despite the shakeup, it is time to reminisce about what Arozarena did in his time in St. Pete. In the beginning, he was brought in via a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals in January in 2020. It was during the 2020 postseason that Arozarena would really step onto the scene.
Throughout the Tampa Bay postseason run, Arozarena was a major contributor. He finished with a .377 average, a .442 on-base percentage, and brought in 14 RBI on 10 home runs. Arozarena currently holds the MLB record for the most games and plate appearances in the postseason. It was in large part due to this major postseason that the Rays were able to capture the 2020 American League title.
However, Arozarena's impact went beyond just the 2020 postseason, as he would continue to produce and provide for Rays fans everywhere. He would also finish that postseason with an ALCS MVP to his name in 2020, due to the big time run he provided at the plate, leading the Rays to their second World Series in franchise history.
Randy Arozarena's Rays impact goes far beyond 2020 postseason
Ultimately, Arozarena was one of the more profoundly impactful hitters in Rays' history, leading the team to four postseason appearances and two AL East titles. His impact is up there with some of the best players the franchise has ever harbored. He also leaves the team as an All-Star in the 2023 season, as well as bringing home the AL Rookie of the Year in 2021.
He finishes his Tampa Bay career with 85 home runs and 289 RBI, showing just how potent he was offensively. His postseason stats are even more impressive, showing how he was about the "moment" with a .336 average, a .414 on-base percentage, 11 home runs, 17 RBI, and an OPS of 1.000.
Tampa Bay found a player and branding legend in Arozarena, as they labelled sections 141 and 143 as "Randyland," where fans flocked to left field in Tropicana Field to cheer on Tampa Bay's left fielder. He had become a player those on the gulf coast of Florida could relate to and have fun with.
Arozarena's time in St. Pete will be known for nothing short of big time electric postseason moments and fans everywhere flocking to see him and cheer him on. He was a favorite inside of Tropicana Field for his big time postseason plays and flashy all-around play style that will live inside the hearts and memories of the Rays faithful for a long time.
