The Rays have acquired their third White Sox pitcher this offseason as they dealt infielder Tanner Murray and former Yankees outfielder Everson Pereira for right-handed pitchers Steven Wilson and Yoendrys Gomez. Wilson is a four-year veteran reliever that had his best season in 2025, as he produced a 3.52 ERA in 55 innings. Gomez, on the other hand, finished his rookie season last year with three different clubs (Yankees, Dodgers, and White Sox). His stats were understandably inconsistent amidst the turmoil of change in one campaign, but he ended up having a respectable first season. His numbers concluded with an even .500 record over nine games started.

Rays sign former White Sox reliever Cam Booser to a minor league deal

The third, and possibly most fascinating, White Sox addition is left-handed relief pitcher, Cam Booser. It has been a long and difficult journey for the 33-year-old hurler. After many injuries and setbacks, Booser finally made his MLB debut in 2024 with the Boston Red Sox. While the athlete was still in high school, he suffered a dramatic injury involving his vertebrae and femur. Despite the magnitude of this injury, Booser still battled his way through college baseball and was signed by the Twins in 2013.

However, the lefty's story was far from over. Cam Booser continued to suffer ailments and setbacks including Tommy John surgery and a 50-game drug suspension. After four seasons in the Twins' minor leagues, he decided to retire from the game of baseball. During the time that he was away from the sport, Booser chose to pick up a new craft as a carpenter. He still dreamed of returning to the game he loved and reaching the pinnacle of major league baseball.

In 2022, that dream came true went he signed a minor league deal with the Diamondbacks. However, Booser wouldn't reach his ultimate goal until he arrived to the Red Sox organization. Boston finally gave the triumphant reliever an opportunity on April 19th, 2024. It was a very emotional debut for Booser and he held his own, giving up just one run in an 8-1 Red Sox victory.

Cam Booser has now completed back-to-back MLB campaigns with a solid 4.28 ERA and 78 strikeouts. Now, the Rays are thrilled to be a chapter in this man's incredible journey.
