It seems to be a never-ending cycle for the Tampa Bay Rays. They gain All-Star caliber players and then trade them elsewhere, only to watch them ravage their former club in almost a revenge-type fashion. This has occurred time and time again, as Rays' fans witnessed it once again last night. Tampa Bay displayed a tribute for former All-Star third baseman, Isaac Paredes and he used it as fuel for a solid first game back in Tampa.
Most Rays fans were a bit sour about the original trade that sent Paredes over to Tampa Bay. The deal involved the Rays sending 2019 All-Star and fan-favorite, Austin Meadows to Detroit for the 23-year old shortstop prospect. It was certainly hard to see the front office winning out on this transaction, especially considering the phenomenal play from Meadows in his four-year Rays' stint.
However, Paredes was able to shine immediately with his new Florida club. It only took 25 Triple-A contests for the Rays to call up their newly acquired infielder. He fit into his role and the clubhouse very well and he was even able to make a position shift within his first year. The Mexican native's ability to be flexible and play beyond his years has been a tremendous thing to watch.

Isaac Paredes sported at least a 2.0 WAR in each of his three campaigns with the Rays. His best season came in 2023, as the former Tiger started to establish himself as the everyday third baseman. In that season, Paredes slashed .250/.352/.488 with 31 home runs and 98 RBIs. His All-Star campaign fell short, but he was able to attend the cherished event the following season.
One of his more impressive attributes has been his power potential to the pull-side. Every one of his 79 career home runs have flown over the left field wall. It's amazing how he's been able to maintain his consistency with the whole league aware of his tendencies. Paredes has averaged about 23 home runs per season from 2022-2024.

Like we mentioned earlier, the former Ray received a warm welcome back to Tampa as he entered the field as a member of the Houston Astros. In four at-bats last night, Paredes recorded two singles and a game-ending snag in foul territory, subtly reminding the Rays of what they've been missing since the 2024 trade deadline.
