The youth that the Rays invited to spring training have shown that they aren't too far away from impacting the big league club on a day-to-day basis. With tenured Rays players Yandy Diaz and Brandon Lowe only a year or two from entering the free agent market, the front office is thrilled to see the potential of a lineup full of these prodigies.
In yesterday's exhibition against the division rival Orioles, minor league first baseman Tre' Morgan finally broke out with an impressive opposite field home run. The blast produced two RBIs and came off of a proven MLB reliever in Seranthony Dominguez. Acquired by the Orioles at last year's deadline, the 30-year old hurler has struggled this spring as he's constructed a 27.00 ERA in three appearances.

However, Dominguez has also put together three sub-3.00 ERA campaigns with the Phillies in his career, so Morgan's homer was certainly a hard-fought one. The LSU product is having a respectable first spring training to this point as he's hitting .294 in 17 at-bats. He's unlikely to make the Opening Day roster due to Yandy Diaz and Josh Lowe blocking his primary positions, but the 22-year old could be evaluated for a potential late-season or 2026 call-up.
A few other talented prospects will likely receive the call to the big leagues earlier than Morgan as they've displayed their tools at a higher clip so far. Carson Williams and Chandler Simpson are the favorites from that loaded Montgomery Biscuits club to help the Rays down the stretch in 2025. Although, Williams may have difficulties finding a role with newly acquired Ha-Seong Kim joining the team in late May. Neander probably plans on giving the 21-year old a full season in Durham due to his age and the high-leverage position that he plays.
Nevertheless, the smooth infielder got the attention of everyone at Ed Smith Stadium yesterday when he smoked a line drive off the left field wall and raced around to third for a triple. The combination of power and speed was front and center on that play.

Rays outfielder Chandler Simpson also joined the hit parade, going 1-for-4 with a single. Simpson is still hitting .385 on the spring, but those numbers are no shock to anyone. The Georgia native slashed .351/.401/.407 for the Biscuits last season. Out of all of these young stars-in-the-making, Simpson may be the most exciting due to his electric skill set. Also, his path to the majors seems to be the clearest one because of the minimal depth in the Rays outfield.
