Ever since Bellinger's long stint in Los Angeles, he has bounced around to a few different clubs. Most recently, the two-time All-Star played for the rival Yankees. He had his best season since his MVP campaign in 2019, sporting a 5.1 WAR alongside 29 homers and 98 RBIs. The pinstripes were certainly good to Bellinger, but the business side of free agency could see him return to a former organization.

An intense bidding war has begun for two-time Silver Slugger winner Cody Bellinger. The frontrunners appeared to be the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, and Giants. However, the Cubs have recently joined the sweepstakes to give him a reunion in the Windy City.

The Scottdale native played for the Cubs from 2023-2024 and the NL Central team can boast about revitalizing the 30-year-old's career. His struggles with the Dodgers were growing as he posted a -1.6 WAR in 2021. The left-handed slugger slashed a mere .165/.240/.302 with only 10 home runs in 95 games. However, his transition to Chicago gave him a fresh start that he desperately needed.

In his short tenure with the Cubs, Bellinger hit .286 with 44 home runs and collected his second Silver Slugger award. Due to the inevitable departure of Tampa product Kyle Tucker, the Cubs are searching for a solid replacement and who better than their former outfielder?

In terms of the Rays, this free agency decision would be great news. Bellinger has always done well against Rays pitching. In 2024, he hit .385 in three contests against the Rays. However, his sample size rises significantly when he plays a divisional rival. As a New York Yankee, Bellinger sports a .280 with five homers in 13 games. Tampa Bay was a mediocre 4-5 against their AL East foe and it may have turned in their direction without the services of Cody Bellinger.

The Yankees outfield picture will look rather scarce without the likes of Bellinger. Young players like Spencer Jones and Jasson Dominguez will be forced to carry a much greater workload than previously necessary. Also, Aaron Judge may feel the pressure of leading a top-heavy offense, especially with Goldschmidt likely on his way out as well.
