The New York Yankees are currently leading a scuffling AL East by six games after starting the season with a 34-20 record. However, the 122-year old club is relentless in the pursuit of their 25th championship in franchise history. They feel that regardless of their AL-most 301 runs, the lineup could use another right-handed hitter to boost their chances of securing the division and riding that into a successful playoff run. Among some of the available trade candidates, former Rays' utility man, Amed Rosario could be heading to the Bronx.
Yankees may pursue former Rays' infielder Amed Rosario for right-handed bat depth
Amed Rosario has been a solid hitter since his nine-year career began in 2017. The Dominican infielder was acquired by the New York Mets at the youthful age of 17. As for most international signings, Rosario spent multiple seasons growing into himself and learning the game at the professional level. He was finally promoted to Triple-A in the Mets organization in 2017 and shined to the tune of a .328 AVG and seven home runs.
The 21-year old made his debut that year, as he was called up for the final 46 games. Rosario's time with the Mets lasted four seasons, ending with a respectable .268 AVG and 115 extra-base hits. However, the shortstop's move to Cleveland aided his career path the most.
In four seasons with the Guardians, Amed Rosario was utilized as the primary shortstop with 349 total games at the position. His best year was in 2022 when he slashed .283/.312/.403 and sported an impressive 4.2 WAR. Obviously, those days are behind him as he generally serves in a utility/bench role now.
When Rosario was signed by the Rays prior to the 2024 campaign, they planned on placing in several positions throughout the season. The utility-man made appearances in four different positions including second base, shortstop, third base, and right field. His offense was also rather productive as the veteran infielder hit .307 in 76 games with the Rays.
As a member of Nationals, Rosario is having another great offensive season as he's hitting .303 with nine extra-base hits and 12 RBIs. The Yankees could definitely use his services, both at the plate and on defense, as they try to maintain their strong momentum.
