Rays OF Jose Siri's remarkable homer off Mason Miller caps clutch series vs. A's
The Tampa Bay Rays got a much needed series win over the Oakland Athletics this week and lot of it was thanks to the work of their center fielder Jose Siri, who was at the center of big plays all week.
The Tampa Bay Rays took two out of three games from the Oakland Athletics to earn a series win at home in Tropicana Field this week. With those two wins, the Rays now sit at 28-29 overall, as the month of June is about to begin and Tampa Bay enters the dog day summer stretch of the season.
A big part in the Rays getting this crucial series win was center fielder Jose Siri, who made many big plays throughout. It started on Wednesday in Tampa Bay's 4-3 win.
In the top of the ninth inning with the game tied 3-3. Oakland's second baseman Zack Gelof sent a shot into left-center field, and Siri leaped over the top of Randy Arozarena to make a phenomenal catch to retire the side and keep the game tied.
Then, in the bottom of the ninth, Siri came up big again in a spot with a runner on third and a chance to walk it off. He did just that, with a shot into left field to lift the Rays to a win. That evened up the series, as Tampa Bay had been shut out by the Athletics the previous night.
Rays OF Jose Siri hits impressive new peak vs. Mason Miller
The third and final game of the series saw Siri have some power in his bat, as he homered twice. The first home run came in the bottom of the second and extended the Rays' lead to a 3-0 game. However, Oakland would work their way back into it and eventually take a 4-3 lead heading into the ninth inning. With one out and the Rays needing a run to tie the game up, Siri launched another home run off of the Athletics' hard throwing closer Mason Miller to tie the game. He simply beat him to the spot.
The game did, in fact, go to extra innings, and Tampa Bay walked it off to win 6-5 thanks to a Richie Palacios RBI knock. With that smash, they claimed a series win over Oakland.
Siri hasn't been playing well so far in 2024, batting .188 with an on-base percentage below .300. Perhaps this kind of electric performance in the series against Oakland is just what he needs to turn his season around and ultimately make Tampa Bay more competitve heading into summer.
